What we do
Clarifying Strategy
Every organization has some sort of strategy – whether explicit or implied – the issue is how clear, intentional, and focused it is – and how widely shared, supported, and understood the strategy is. We help senior leaders and their teams to define their strategy and the actions needed for successful implementation. This includes:
1. Assessing the organization’s current strategy and business environment
Question: Do you make the time to have purposeful dialogue regarding the clarity, strengths and weaknesses of your organization’s current strategy within the context of the changing world around you? Have you structured your interactions with others to enable this type of dialogue? Do you create dedicated space in your schedule to reflect on important but non-urgent matters?
Our solutions include reviewing existing plans and documentation to identify key elements of your current strategy; identifying current and emerging developments in the broader business environment; and conducting surveys and interviews with members of the executive team and other key stakeholders to determine strengths and weaknesses with the current strategy and identify opportunities for improvement.
2. Designing customized strategy frameworks and processes aligned with business needs
Question: Does your approach to strategy provide necessary focus and clarity and enable your organization remain flexible and adaptive? Do you regularly review and, when appropriate, revise your plans and objectives as circumstances warrant?
Our solutions include designing structured approaches to clarify and confirm those elements of strategy that lack understanding and focus; and applying methods and tools that enable business strategy to emerge and flex, allowing mid-stream course corrections when needed.
3. Defining core elements of the organization’s identity and direction
Question: Are you ‘crystal clear’ on the fundamental purpose of your organization, its positioning in the marketplace, the value it provides, and the operating principles that guide your work and underpin all that you do? Have you articulated your key priorities for the next 12-36 months and the actions necessary to achieve your priorities in the most efficient and effective way possible? Can you distinguish and articulate what’s absolutely critical from what’s merely important? Would your colleagues agree?
Our solutions include gathering relevant business intelligence; facilitating dialogue to review and confirm organizational identity and direction; thoughtfully considering the business implications of choices made; and strengthening executive commitment to implementing the chosen strategy.
4. Supporting the linkage of strategy and operations
Question: Have you captured key decisions and courses of action in a clear and concise fashion that enables meaningful, yet straightforward, communications to key internal and external stakeholders? Do you have methods in place to operationalize your strategy?
Our solutions include facilitating the documentation of organizational identity and direction; and providing advice and coaching on how to operationalize strategy given the organization’s capacity and capability.
Here’s how we’ve made a difference…
Aligning Leadership Behaviour
We also work with executives and their teams to identify the behavioural implications of the strategic choices they make. Different strategies require different behaviours from leaders and, as a result, they need to thoughtfully and honestly consider the leadership implications of their strategic choices. This includes defining the behaviours needed to drive the organization forward and then regularly assessing their performance against those expectations.
Through the use of leading edge assessments and structured dialogue, we help executives assess the degree of alignment between their current leadership behaviour and chosen business strategy. We then provide leaders with insight into ways they can strengthen their behaviours to better align with their chosen strategy. We use a variety of approaches that include:
1. Translating strategy into specific leadership competencies and performance expectations
Question: Have you taken the time to clearly identify how your plans will impact yourself and others on your team? Have you mapped out how you and your team need to ‘show up’ each and every day?
Our solutions include interviews, facilitated dialogue, organizational surveys and identification of strategy-linked leadership competencies.
2. Designing and managing performance feedback processes for individuals and teams
Question: Have you determined how success will be measured for you and your team? Do you know how your behaviour and performance is perceived by others? Do you regularly utilize appropriate methods and tools to provide leaders with this type of feedback?
Our solutions include the use of individual assessments such as 360 feedback and emotional intelligence, as well as team assessments such as top team surveys and team dimensions profiles.
3. Identifying areas for targeted development and performance improvement
Question: Are you and your team clear on the behaviours and operating assumptions that need to stay the same and those that need to change? Are you and your team committed to moving forward on these improvement opportunities and being held accountability for results?
Our solutions include comprehensive individual and team debriefs, coaching, and action planning; and enhanced performance management and executive accountability practices.
4. Supporting individuals and teams as they seek to strengthen their leadership effectiveness amid the demands of day-to-day work.
Question: Have you identified appropriate strategies and resources to help you and your team transition to strengthened and/or new ways of achieving desired results?
Our solutions include real-time advice and coaching to strengthen individual leadership and team effectiveness.
